Speed settings

The settings HF Panel uses to stay quick on large servers, which files hold them and how to change them.

HF Panel sets up a server to answer quickly, also with thousands of accounts and domains. Most of this needs nothing from you. This page lists what is set, where, and what you can change.

The panel itself

What Where Notes
Compiled database engine /var/cache/hostfog/sqlite (and sqlite-root) The panel's program keeps its database engine ready-made here, so it starts in well under a second and its scheduled jobs use little CPU. The folders are made by the installer and update.sh. Delete them at any time: they are made again.
Database indexes the panel database Made by hf-api migrate (run by every update). Lists of accounts, domains and mailboxes stay quick with thousands of entries.
Compressed answers built in The panel compresses large answers for browsers and API programs that accept it.
Server status built in Status read from the server (services, PHP versions, resources) is reused for 5 seconds. Any change you make reads it again at once.

Web server

What File Notes
Compression of the panels' files /etc/nginx/conf.d/hostfog-gzip.conf Style sheets, scripts, fonts and images of the panels, webmail, HF Files and HF Studio. Settings already in nginx.conf are left as they are. Websites have their own compression settings.
HTTP/2 every site and panel On by default. HTTP/3 and Brotli: Web server profiles.

PHP

What File Notes
OPcache sizes /etc/php/<version>/fpm/conf.d/90-hostfog-opcache.ini Room for 20,000 scripts and 16 MB of strings, enough for many WordPress sites. Changed files are picked up within 2 seconds. The OPcache memory is set on Web server profiles.
PHP processes each account's PHP pool Started when a request comes and stopped when idle (8 at most by default). Change it on Web server profiles.

MariaDB

What File Notes
Buffer pool /etc/mysql/mariadb.conf.d/61-hostfog-perf.cnf About 15 % of the server's memory (at least 128 MB, at most 2 GB), written once. Your own value in any MariaDB settings file is kept. To change it, edit this file and restart MariaDB.

Tip: after you add memory to the server, delete 61-hostfog-perf.cnf and run the update again: the buffer pool is sized for the new memory.
