Code of conduct

How we expect everyone to behave in support conversations, documentation and translation work, and the partner programme, and how to report a problem.

HF Panel is used by people in many countries, in 21 languages, with every level of experience. This code of conduct applies wherever people work with HostFog Ltd on HF Panel: support conversations, documentation and translation contributions, feature requests and the partner programme.

What we expect

  • Be respectful. Disagree with ideas, not people. Assume good intent.
  • Be patient. Not everyone writes in their first language, and everyone was new once.
  • Be clear and specific. Describe problems with facts: what you did, what happened, what you expected.
  • Be helpful. When you know the answer, share it kindly. When you don't, say so.
  • Respect privacy. Don't share other people's personal data, account details, passwords or private messages.
  • Respect time. Search the documentation first, keep to one topic per message, and follow up in the same conversation.

What is not acceptable

  • insults, harassment, threats or discriminatory language of any kind
  • unwanted sexual attention or content
  • publishing someone's private information without their permission
  • spam, advertising or repeated off-topic messages
  • trying to get access to servers, accounts or data that aren't yours
  • pressuring staff, partners or other users

Hosting providers and their customers

Hosting companies that run HF Panel are responsible for their own customers and support. We ask them to treat their customers by the same standards, and to keep customers' data private.

Reporting a problem

If someone breaks this code, or you feel unsafe or unwelcome, tell us through https://hostfog.io/contact/. Reports are read in confidence. Where needed, we may warn a person, stop answering them in a channel, or end a partnership.
